Notepad 2 Complete Install

Notepad is a developers best friend. It's simple - and that's the appeal. But occasionally, you need just a bit more features. Enter Notepad2.



Notepad2 is a free app that can be downloaded here. It enhances & builds upon the original Notepad that ships w/ Windows. Some of the enhancements include color-coding, zoom, file-type configuration, and an eff-load more. By default, Notepad2 recognizes and color-codes for html, xml, cs, vb, reg and even NSIS files. Any unsupported file types can be configured.

Though, when you try to replace the original Notepad with Notepad2, Windows doesn't dig that too much - and it pretty much does everything it can to restore the original Notepad. After a few fustrating attempts, I found this bat file online that will permanently update your system to use the Notepad2 instead of Notepad.

Note - you still need to download Notepad2. Then place the bat file in the same directory as Notepad2, run, and you're golden.

What theme is XP running in that screenshot? I like that blue. Could you post the RGB or SHB of your active title bar?
